Hybrid No. 005.0 is a sculptural composition made from casts of botanical and marine specimens collected across Wassaic, New York; Brooklyn, New York; and Tulum, Mexico. Preserved in resin and arranged within a velvet-lined birch shadow box, the work brings together fragments of flowers, leaves, and coral from different ecosystems.
Several of the specimens were gathered during Gloria Fan Duan’s residency at An And Foundation in Wassaic, where the surrounding landscape became part of the material and conceptual foundation of the work. The piece reflects on ecological connections across places, seasons, and environments.
Production of the work was supported by Fou Residency (Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico) and An And Foundation (Upstate New York).
